Measuring EV Battery Pack Flatness

星期一, 八月 14, 2023

Tough Applications Require Specialised Sensors

The Electric Vehicle industry is constantly evolving, therefore the demand for smaller components continues to increase. These critical dimensions often prove challenging to track and measure, however specialised sensors can streamline the process by providing high resolution and excellent repeatability to retrieve accurate dimensions.

Checking flatness of an EV Battery Pack is a critical step in Electric Vehicle manufacturing, as the cells must fit precisely into the frame/housing, or the battery pack will have inadequate space to seal shut. Any check must also be done quickly, efficiently, cost-effectively, and be able to fit within a robotics package.

No Downtime

Solartron Metrology offers various measurement solutions for checking flatness of an EV Battery pack, with Jet Pneumatic Probes providing a unique advantage over standard gaiter operating probes.

Downtime is a major setback on the production line, leading to unnecessary time and money lost. With standard probes, a damaged gaiter can lead to potential downtime. However, a Jet “J” Type Pneumatic Probe works on a Piston Push mechanic, meaning it works independently of the gaiter.

Ruggedness

In addition to the piston push mechanics, Solartron’s Jet Pneumatic Probe possesses a rugged structure in a compact package, which measures 8mm in diameter with a 6mm option, allowing them to be mounted into tight spaces on a robot arm whilst lasting for over hundreds of millions of cycles if correctly maintained.

Highest Resolution

The Jet Pneumatic Probe resolution of 0.01 µm provides a cost-efficient package which measures to tight specs. This is coupled with repeatability precision better than 0.05 µm and accuracy better than 0.1 µm. Additionally, these sensors possess an excellent sideload capability which provides long life in the harshest of conditions and processes.

Connectivity

For connectivity and output, the Orbit® Digital Measurement Network allows for easy and streamlined networking and output via the Wireless Interface Module. Additionally, via the Orbit®, our probes can output to multiple PLC protocols, including Profinet®, Ethernet/IP®, EtherCAT®, Modbus, and CC-Link®.
